Services will be held at Gills First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro, LA on Thursday June 23, 2016 with Rev. Terry Ganey officiating. Visitation will be at 12 noon with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery. Born October 6, 1919 to James Owen and Laura Shepherd Maynor, Lester was proudly one of the "Greatest Generation". Lester served as a Tech 5 (Army Scout) for the Headquarters Company 20th Infantry Division from June 18, 1941 until discharge on October 25, 1945. He fought for his country's freedom in World War II's Asiatic Pacific Campaign, seeing battle in both the Philippines - Lingayen Gulf, and New Guinea - Luzon. For his service, Lester earned 2 Bronze Stars, a Bronze Arrowhead, a Purple Heart, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Operations Medal. He was an active member of both the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Monroe Chapter, and the VFW Post 8780 in Winnsboro, where for many years he helped place flags along Hwy 15 to honor the fallen. Following his military service, Lester was employed as a Linesman for Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative in Winnsboro for 25 years. After his father's death in 1961, Lester, his wife, and children made their home on the family farm where he continued to raise cattle and cotton for many years. Never idle after retirement, Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and growing blueberries, figs, mayhaws, and muscadines for the entire family. For the past several years, he even busied himself with painting and crafting. Lester is preceded in death by his wife of 61 yrs., Nita Faye Cooper Maynor, parents James Owen and Laura Shepherd Maynor, infant brothers, Fred, Robert, and Millard Maynor, grandson Damon Christopher Adams, sisters Nell Keys, Edna Hatton, Auba McCain, and Loraine Miller. He is survived by 3 children - Daughters, Glenda Littleton and her husband Thomas of Bastrop; Kathleen Erwin and her husband Aaron of Cornersville, TN; and Son, Robert Maynor of Winnsboro; 5 grandchildren, Angela Jaggers, Melissa Gallagher, Alicia Enroth, Michael Maynor and Katie Maynor; and 13 great- grandchildren, Chelsea Jaggers Hayes, Maverick Jaggers, Micheal, Matthew, and Megan Gallagher, Avery, Laurel, and Talon Enroth, Rayven and Phoenix Maynor, Loren and Kenneth Mooneyham, and Phillip Rios. Pallbearers are Robert Shelton "Buddy" Cooper, Daniel Enroth, Matthew Gallagher, Marvin Jaggers, William Neal and Buddy Smith. Honored attendance by the Patriot Guard.
