Phillips, Sr. Funeral services for Sherman A. Phillips, Sr., 81, of Winnsboro were held Wednesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro with the Rev. Thomas Holtzclaw officiating. Interment was under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Phillips died tuesday, February 29, 2000 at Columbia North Monroe Hospital. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro. He retired in 1983, as Professor Emeritus of Agronomy from LSU Macon ridge Experiment Station which he helped found. Survivors include his wife, Willie Lea Phillips of Winnsboro; three sons, Wayne Phillips of Winnsboro; Sherman A. Phillips, Jr. of Lubbock, Texas; Robert Phillips of Lafayette; two step-sons, Michael Brumfield, England; Steve Brumfield of Monroe; one step-daughter, Donna Williams of Monroe; two brothers, John Phillips and Jack Phillips both of Shreveport; and eight grandchildren.
