Bill Moon and the Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Providence Memorial Cemetery near Winnsboro under the direction of Riser First National Funeral Home. Mr. Shirley was born May 22, 1917 in Crowville and died July 21, 2000 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro and was once a member of the Good News Singers. He was a former Dixie Boys baseball coach and was a retired rural mail carrier. Survivors include his wife, Jamie Shirley of Winnsboro; four children, Marilyn Hooper and husband, Zeke of Enon, La; Mary Francis Hooper Richardson and husband, Emmett of Winnsboro; Randy Shirley and wife Sharon of Winnsboro; David Shirley and wife, JoEllen of Alto; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Chris Cruse, Emmett Richardson, Sam Richardson, Matt Shirley, Zeke Williams and Stanley Hodge. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro in memory of Mr. Shirley.
