Southern Funeral services for Lonnie O. Southern, 69, of Andrews, Texas were held Monday at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Ervin Southern and Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Mr. Southern died Friday, June 30, 2000 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1931 in Baskin, to Garnell and Essie Southern. He moved to Andrew in 1960 and married Doris Middleton, October 20, 1978. He worked as a reverse rig operator and retired from Homco. He was a Baptist. Mr. Southern was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jay Lee Southern and step-son, Ronald Gene Middleton. Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Southern of Andrews, Texas; six daughters, Sharon Annette Southern, Treva Carol Southern and Patty Renee' Acosta all of Andrews, Texas; Evelyn Delphena Southern of Plaquemine, La.; Barbara Elaine Carver of Haughton; Cecelia Melvine Carver of Colorado City, Texas; three sons, Bobby Dale Southern of Gilbert; Lonnie Gene Southern of Donaldsonville; George Allen Southern of Denison, Texas; five sisters, Georgia May Clark and Juanita Bennett both of Winnsboro; Barbara Denny of Lakesville, Minnesota; Nell Eley of Gilbert; Sarah Holmes of Duck Hill, Mississippi; three brothers, Melvin Southern of Andrews, Texas; Edward Southern of Gilbert; Roy Ervin Southern of Arcadia; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
