HODNETT FROM AN OBITUARY FINAL SUMMON OF W. H. HODNETT The Final Summons Mr. W. H. Hodnett, post master at Futrell, died Tuesday morning June 5, 1906 at 5:15 o'clock. He had been in feeble health and his suffering intense for several months, yet his death came as a great shock to his family and neighbors, as he had spent the day before his death in the discharge of his duties. The deceased was born in the State of Georgia, May 22, 1839. He emigrated to the site of his present home in 1860. He enlisted with the 19th regiment of the La. Infantry early in '62 and remained true to the cause of the South. In the struggle he was wounded, depriving him of his right arm. He was married to Miss Melissa Stephens, October 4, 1871. To their union was born five children, four of which with their mother survive him. There are three sons, respectively, M.A., W.B., and E. R., all of this parish; and one daughter, Olive. Mr Hodnett filled the office of Recording Clerk, a term of three years. He had been engaged in school teaching a number of years and had been a postmaster at different places four terms. He united himself with the ME Church at the age of 12 years, and is said to have lived a life which in every way characterized a Christian gentleman, but noted especially for his patience and courtesy. A few years previous to his death he expressed to his wife his feelings regarding his soul's salvation, thus indicating his constant faith in his Maker. The remains were interred in the Liberty Chapel cemetery Wednesday afternoon, to await the resurrection mourn and hear the Master's "well done." A FRIEND NOTE: Mr. WH Hodnett was the grandfather of Mazzie Hodnett Roberson and Thresa Hodnett Collins.
