From the benchmark at Packton bearing 260.6"M distance 2,754.3ft Natchez Trace Cemetery (Packton) is about a mile west of Packton down a rock dirt road. This is about 1/2 mile east from the end of a old tram that shows up as the town "Wirand" on old railroad maps. The story is that this is where people from a wagon train trveling the Natchez Trace were burried when they became sick and died. In the early 80s loggers started cutting trees and drove through the cemetery and over several graves. Since I live near this site I noticed it after they had cut the first tree and we reported it. They were forced to stop cutting and left the trees around the cemetery. The road has a rock base but now looks like a dirt road. The cemetery is in grant parish and the road is in winn. Several markers can be seen and several unmarked graves are stile viewable since they were mounded back up by some workers brought in by Johney Moore. Acording to my grandfather WW Melton the graves used to be marked by lighting rods. But none can be seen today. Someone has put up a sign and named this the Hyde Cemetery however it has never been known as the Hyde cemetery. The Hyde cemetery is located elsewhere.
