Homer Barrett, 82 of Dunn Ferry Road were held at 2pm.Sunday(Jan 13) in Hammer-Lyons Funeral Home. The Rev. Royce Sylvest, pastor of Houston River Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Big Woods Cemetery.Edgerly, La Barrett died at 5pm Friday in West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. A native of Georgetown, La., he had lived most of his life in Sulphur. He was a Navy veteran of World War 1. He was the first town marshal of Sulphur from 1926 to 1948 and was a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputy. From 1949 to 1952 he was a captain game warden for the Louisiana Department of Wild Life and Fisheries. Then he returned to the sheriff's department and worked as a deputy until his retirement. He was a charter member of Sulphur American Legion Post 179. Surviving are his wife, Edith Lacy Barrett; two sons, Dr. G. Kenneth Barrett and J.Ralph Barrett, both of Sulphur; three brothers, J.L. Barrett of Sulphur and G.L. Barrett and Clint Barrett both of Georgetown; two sisters, Bunchie B, Puckett of Westlake and Bobbie B. Lincecum of Georgetown; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
