Obit: Robert Leo Bennett, Grant Parish La Submitted to USGENWEB by Houston Tracy Jr. The Colfax Chronicle 1895 (complete date is not shown) Former librarian, Helen Sorrell, at the Grant Parish Library had gone through some of the microfilm of the newspaper files of the Chronicle and made copies of obituaries and/or news items, which led to death. These were found in a folder on the book shelf at that library on a research trip there 13 February 1999. Copies were made and then extracted to post here in the LaGenWeb archives for Grant Parish. ********************************************** Copyright. Leaving his home near Ada, La. in January, Dr. Bennett went to Memphis, Tenn. to attend the Hospital Medical College, at that place, hoping soon to return to his loved ones, and to the practice of his chosen profession. The rigor of the climate however, together with an attack of measles, succeeded by pneumonia, proved more than his constitution, already rather frail, could not withstand. The skill of the medical faculty and the loving, tender care of a devoted cousin (not named), fellow students and friends, were all unavailing to bind his gentle spirit to earth. On Dec. 20, 1883, Dr. Bennet was married to Miss Eugenia A. Hearn, who survives him and three darling little girls (not named). Three children had preceeded him to the Eternal City of the spirit land. Being constantly environed by religious influence, he early chose to become a follower of the meek and lowly Nazarene (Jesus), and united with the M.E. Church, South in April 1891, under the ministry of Rev. A.W. Galloway.
