Carr, Jr. Reburied at Hargis Funeral services for Pfc. J. C. Carr, jr. were held at Hargis Baptist Church Saturday, July 2, with the Rev. Roy O'Connor officiating. Military rites were also held. Interment was at Hargis Cemetery; pallbearers were Louis Dubois, Arnold Lee Corbett, Huey Bullock, Jack Brumley, Vernon Guin, and Wilmer Fletcher. Pfc. Carr, who entered service August 26, 1942 was 24 at the time he was killed, January 18, 1945, in Italy. He was in action in North Africa, Anzio, Salerno and Rome and was in six major battles before his death. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Carr of Montgomery; his wife, Claude Carr of Sumrall, Miss.; five brothers, Billy, James, Edd and Talmadge Carr, all of Montgomery, stationed at Midway City, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Elmo Cruse of Olla, Mrs. Leroy Price of Childress, Tex., and Mrs. J. W. Norred of Montgomery." Note: Pfc. Carr's reburial on July 2, 1949 was the second of two burials in the Hargis Baptist Church Cemetery prior to its formal dedication on Easter Sunday, 1950. Both were reburials of World War II servicemen with the first reburial being that of Byron McIlwain in February 1949.
