Burial was followed in the Mr. [Mt.] Zion Cemetery, Montgomery. Hoob, 73, of Winnfield died Wednesday, June 23. 1999, in the Rapides Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Natchitoches, La and was a carpenter. He was a member of the East Winnfield Baptist Church, Senior friends and the wellness center. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Winnfield Post and was a US Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lanell Mixon Hoob of Winnfield; two daughters, Pat Samples of San Antonio, TX and Diane Blake of Bakersfield, California; four step-sons Marvin Hoob, Noah Hoob, Jr., David Hoob all of Houma, Louisiana and Nicholas Desimone of San Bernardino, California; two step-daughters, Ala Bragg of Tampa, Florida and Patricia Horchler of Winnfield; one brother Freeman Hoob of Columbia; two sisters, Vera Blaney of Deville and Norma Millingan of Winnfield; three half brothers, Houston Wall and Harmon Wall both of Hargis and H. Neeld Funeral Home Xenia, Ohio was in charge of arrangements. Walters, 92, passed away Monday evening, June 21, at Green Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio. At her side was her loving son Charles L. Walters, M.D. and his family. She made her home with her son since 1991. Mrs. Walters was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and loyal faithful friend. She loved her church, the First Baptist Church of Montgomery, where she was a member for over 50 years. Mrs. Walters was born Dec. 3, 1906 in Verda, Louisiana to the union of Martin Luther and Sally Higdon Ferris. She was a second grade teacher in the Montgomery area for close to 50 years, she was a graduate of North West Louisiana State College, receiving a degree in Elementary Education. She was proceeded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and six sisters. Her husband, Willard Lee Walters passed away in 1950. She is survived by her beloved sister, Geraldine Brice of Natchitoches, Louisiana; her son and daughter-in-law Dr. Charles L. and Meba Walters, of Xenia, Ohio; a granddaughter Marlise E. Walters of Xenia, Ohio and Deborah L. Walters of West Monroe, and Mrs. Walters leaves behind to mourn her memory her many devoted dedicated faithful friends in Montgomery. ********************** Stanley D. She was a resident of Natchitoches and a native of Colfax. She was a member of Church of the Immaculate Conception and a past member of Natchitoches Service League. She was a member of Retired Teachers Association and a member of the State Hospital Board of Louisiana in the early 1960's. "Will" Fletcher were held Friday, July 2 in the First Baptist Church of Montgomery. Officiating were the Revs. Rick Henson, Robert Daniel and Don Smith. Burial was in the Hargis Cemetery near Montgomery, with Masonic graveside services. Arrangements were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield. "Will", as he was affectionately known to friends and family, was an active community leader and took part in numerous civic and community activities throughout Grant Parish. He was fondly remembered by Tommy Harrison of Montgomery, who delivered a moving eulogy and tribute to his friend during services Friday. Harrison spoke lovingly and often with humor about his friend "Will" and moved those in attendance with his words of tribute to one of the parish's outstanding citizens. Fletcher, a Montgomery native and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999 in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was 81 years old. A retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel, with 14 years active military service and 20 years in the reserves, Fletcher was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Retired Officers Association of America. Fletcher also served 25 years as a deputy sheriff for Grant Parish, and was a member of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association and a trustee of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association Pension Board. Sheriff "Pop: Hataway said of his longtime friendship with Fletcher "he was a friend and a mentor. He genuinely loved people and was devoted to his family and community. I will miss him greatly, as a former deputy but most importantly, as a close friend and mentor. Many others will miss him, too." Fletcher was also a charter member of the Grant Chamber of Commerce, an belonged to Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM of Montgomery and was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Mary Dell Fletcher of Montgomery, one daughter, Janet Dyson of Baton Rouge and her husband James Dyson; two brothers, Jim Fletcher of Montgomery and Duane Fletcher of Bossier City; one sister, Mary Gore of Dry Prong; two grandsons, William Quentin Dyson and wife Susan, and Brandon Dyson; many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She was the assistant branch manager of the Bank of Montgomery in Derry and was the former office manager of CPA firm of Hines, Jackson & Hines in Natchitoches. "Sam" Oglesby, 84, of Spring Hill, Fla. died Sunday, July 4, 1999. He was a native of Colfax and he was a Protestant. Oglesby was a member of the Mason Lodge, North Charleston, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Oglesby; a brother, Harmon Oglesby of Salina, Utah; and four sisters, Maxine Batey of Long Beach, Miss., Creola Green of Monroe, Carmen James of the Verda Community and Kitty Murray of Pleasant Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Oglesby and Therman Oglesby, his father and mother, James Iley and Ourelia Lemoine Oglesby of Verda. Oglesby joined the Navy March 17, 1937 after graduating from Verda High School. He retired after 32 years as chief petty officer. He was a veteran of WWII, Atlantic, Pacific Campaigns, Panama Canal zone, Occupation Service in Bremen, Germany, where he met his wife, affectionately called "Henny". The couple celebrated their 50th wedding August 20, 1998. He is fondly remembered by shipmates and Navy buddies as "Sam". He was the recipient of many medals for his service to his country. After retiring from the Navy, Oglesby attended LSU School of Mechanical Engineering and later worked for Roy O. Martin Lumber Co., Alexandria.
