Montgomery, 64, a longtime resident of Abilene, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 1999. Audrey was dedicated to her role as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her friendly smile, generosity and kind voice brightened the day of all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by all those lives she so lovingly touched. Visitation was at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, Friday, August 27, 1999, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Saturday, August 28, 1999 at 9:00 a.m. with Msgr. Fred Nawanskas officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Park. Audrey was born December 1, 1934 in Verda, to Herman and Olivia Ulmer. On February 18, 1955, Audrey, Married Robert L. Montgomery at the Barksdale Air Force Base Chapel in Bossier City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Olivia Ulmer; brothers, Earnest (Pete), Frank and Jimmy Ulmer and sister Edna Paylette. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Robert "Bob" Montgomery of Abilene; daughters, Belinda Brock and her husband Michael of Tyler Texas, and Peggy Carey and her husband Larry of Abilene; grandchildren Montgomery Lee Brock, Kara Leigh Nesmith, and Nathan Ray Carey; brothers Warren Ulmer of Segmare Indiana; Jesse Ulmer, of Montgomery, Pee Wee Ulmer of Morgan City; sisters Ruth Edwards of Lake Placid Florida, Susie Williams, Montgomery and Viola Ulmer of Bossier City; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Aline Miller and many other friends. Pallbearers were Julian Bridges, Jay Swonger, Gerald Garrett, Sam Gregory, David Mosley and Chet Low. Rhodes, 85, of Texarkana, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, in Hot Springs, Ark. He was born in Colfax, La., was retired from Sears Roebuck & Company, was co-owner of Dusty Rhodes Motor Company, was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas, was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion. Rachal, 77, of Pineville, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, in Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria. He served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the Rapides Parish Police Jury. COMMUNITY AFFAIRS CORNER page 7 Thaddeus Ford, Sr, a sixth generation New Orleans musician, died August 5, 1999 during a St. Augustine marching practice. The New Orleans native was the fourth child born to the late saxophonist Clarence Ford, Sr. and Alice Wiltz Ford on August 23, 1954. He graduated from Augustine High School in 1973 and remained devoted and loyal to the true tradition of his alma mater. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and the University of New Orleans. His vocation in life was music and the purpose was fulfilled through his work 'as I assistant band director for the St. Augustine' High School Concert and Marching Bands, the United States Marine Corps Band, the New Orleans Jazz Historical Park's summer concerts series and as a member of its "Trails and Rails" program on the City of New Orleans, the Algiers Brass Band, the reggae group Cool Riddums and Sista Teedy the Southern University Jazz Ensemble, the University of New Orleans Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, Phi Mu Alp~ha Sinfonia, and countless other musicians and musical organizations. A service of worship celebrating the life and Homegoing of Ford was held at St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church on August 11, 1999. Fittingly, the service and procession included St. Augustine students and alumni, pianist Dwight Fitch, members of the Coolbone Brass Band (Thaddeus Ford, II is a member), the Algiers Brass Band, Deacon John, members of Phi Mu~ Alpha Sinfonia, and other brass band players, all of whom offered tributes in song. Those left to celebrated his life include: his wife, Mary white Ford; three daughters, Ashlei, Shiann and Jazmyne Ford; two sons, Terrol Mitchell, Sr. and Thaddeus. Ford, II; his mother, Alice Wiltz Ford; his mother-in-law, Maxine Coutee Nelson of Colfax; two brothers, Clarence Ford, Jr. and reedsman Louis Ford; two sisters, Linda Ford Austin and Cvnthia Ford Spandoni; one grandson, Terrol Mitchell, 11 and a host of other friends and relatives. He was a retired cattle rancher, a member of Church of Immaculate Conception, VFW and American Legion.
