Obit: Mary Elizabeth Coleman, Grant Parish La Submitted by Houston Tracy Jr. The Colfax Chronicle April 12, 1935 Former librarian, Helen Sorrell, at the Grant Parish Library had gone through some of the microfilm of the newspaper files of the Chronicle and made copies of obituaries and/or news items, which led to death. These were found in a folder on the book shelf at that library on a research trip there 13 February 1999. Coleman - 42 - Dies at Big Creek Home At the family residence in the Big Creek community, near Pollock, La., Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, aged 42 years, wife of J.B. Coleman, departed this life Friday afternoon, April 5th at 3 o'clock. Deceased is survived by her husband, J.B. Coleman of Rochelle, La. and one son, Alvah (sic) Coleman of Rochelle; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Mercer of Pollock, La.; and the following brothers and sisters: Fred, Harry and Jesie (sic) Mercer of Pollock; Rev. M.F. Mercer of Pineville, La.; Mrs. Nellie Waters, Mrs. Oliver Duncan of Pollock; Mrs. Jim Bruce of Bentley, La.; Mrs. Cleo Smith and Mrs. Florence Crawford, both of Shreveport, La. Mrs. Coleman's death came as a tragedy, after a two year illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Big Creek Baptist Church, Rev. J.O. Fogleman, pastor of Pollock church and was assisted by Rev. C.F. Croom in conducting the rites. Interment was made in the Big Creek cemetery with the following pall bearers: John Ward, Wesley Cagle, Bud Barron, Will Futrell, P. Futrell and Mr. Reed (or Read, type is smudged)
