Davison, a retired farmer of Montgomery, who passed away at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 1964 in a Winnfield hospital after a short illness, were held Saturday, August 8, at 2:30 p.m. at the Union Hill Baptist Church near Montgomery. Rev. C. B. Ellis of Jonesboro First Baptist Church, Rev. Larry Elliot of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and the Rev. J. A. Achord, the church pastor, officiating; burial was in the church cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Curtis Davison, Kent Wardlow, John Kieffer, Ollie Bishop, Johnnie Bishop, and J. E. Garner. Graveside Masonic rites were held. Mr. Davison, better known to most of his friends as "Uncle Van", was 88 years 8 months and 8 days old at the time of his death. He had been a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church since July, 1898, and has been a deacon there for over 50 years. He had been a very active worker in his church up until his health began to fail. He has been a Mason for more than 50 years and a member of the W. O. W. for many years. He was born and reared within one-half mile where he made his home the rest of his life. "Uncle Van" enjoyed reading his Bible each day and his newspaper from front to back and having company for his pastime. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Earl V. Davison of Montgomery, and Otis Davison of Pollock; five daughters, Mrs. M. A. Estes and Mrs. Paul Garner, both of Montgomery, Mrs. Louis Horn of Ville Platte, Mrs. Leslie Moore and Mrs. Virgil Tharpe, both of Winnfield; three brothers, H. C. Davison and M. C. Davison, both of Montgomery, Melton Davison, of West Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Callie Brown of Montgomery; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He also reared one grandson, Willie Metcalf, the son of his daughter, Mrs. Ross Metcalf, who along with her husband were killed in a tornado at Montgomery in 1939. Submitted by: Greggory E.
