W. Holmes, 72, who died in a local hospital Tuesday, January 30, 1951, were held in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. P. M. Carraway and Dr. W. L. Holcomb officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were Eli Harrell, E. J. Buchanan, Troy Smith, J. C. Brooks, Ebb Machen, and James Thomas. Born March 10, 1878 in Grant Parish, Mrs. Holmes spent most of her life in Winn Parish. Her husband died many years ago, and she reared her four sons and five daughters an one grandson, Edgar Brown, in Winnfield. She was a member of the Montgomery Baptist Church and of the WBA. She suffered a heart attack two weeks prior to her death. Surviving are four sons, Joe B. Holmes, Winnfield, Luther E. of Ft. Worth, Texas, Oswald of Arlington, Texas, and Wendell of Pineville; five daughters, Mrs. B. T. Kelley and Mrs. Roy Payne, Bossier City, Mrs. Harley Hendricks of Benkalman, Neb., Mrs. Frances Wheeler of Winnfield, and Mrs. G. D. Babin of Jonesville; one sister, Mrs. R. G. Noble of West Monroe; one brother Clayton McGlothin of Rt. 1, Montgomery. Mrs. Holmes also leaves 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
