Penn Luther, Former Merchant, Dies In Colfax Funeral services for William Penn Luther, 59, of Colfax, were held at Couley Methodist Church Friday at 3 p.m. Mr. Luther, a former Winnfield businessman, died Thursday after a short illness. Rites were conducted by Rev. T. A. Brown, assisted by Rev. I. A. Patton and Lula Wardlow. Burial was in Couley Double Church Cemetery under direction of a local funeral home. Mr. Luther operated a grocery store on Lafayette Street here until last year. He had always taken an active part in church and civic affairs. Surviving are his widow, one son, Charles Wayne of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Wilhelm of Houston, and Miss Love Luther of Colfax; three brothers, J. H. Luther and A. Luther, of Winnfield, and R. L. Luther of Atlanta; three sisters, Mrs. Ed Mitchell of Montgomery, Mrs. Monroe Shelton of Winnfield, and Mrs. Hardy Martin of Calvin; and one granddaughter.
