Obit: Willa Dee Chelette McManus, Grant Parish La Submitted by Houston Tracy Jr. The Colfax Chronicle 1935 (Complete not written) Former librarian, Helen Sorrell, at the Grant Parish Library had gone through some of the microfilm of the newspaper files of the Chronicle and made copies of obituaries and/or news items, which led to death. These were found in a folder on the book shelf at that library on a research trip there 13 February 1999. McMans (sic) (nee Willa Dee Chelette), aged 28 of Port Arthur, Texas, died at 3 p.m., Saturday, (April 19, 1935) at St. Mary's hospital there, after an illness of but one day. Mrs. McManus was a native of Grant Parish, having been born at Verda, La. About eight years ago, whe went to Port Arthur to make her home. She is survived by her husband, V.C. McManus, one daughter, Burna (sic) Dean and one son, Charles, all of Port Arthur. She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Chelette of Port Arthur; three sisters: Mrs. E.B. Maseburg of Montgomery, La.; Mrs. D.L. Smith and Mrs. Leland Lacy and two brothers, Hurd (sic) and Leo Chelette, all of Port Arthur. Mrs. McManus was a member of the Fourth Avenue Baptist Church in Port Arthur. Funeral services were held from the Grammier Chapel at 4 p.m., Sunday with Rev. S.W. Cowles officiating. Interment was made in the Greenlawn Cemetery, near Port Arthur, Texas.
