Mitchell On December 26, 1909, at 4 a.m., at his home near Wheeling, La., Josephus S. Mitchell fell asleep in death, leaving a wife, seven children, an aged father and mother, a number of other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his going, but we feel that our loss is Heaven's gain. he was born February 14th, 1873 and was reared in Winn Parish. He was converted and joined the Methodist Church when young, of which he was a steward at his death. Oh! we miss him so much, we miss him in the community, in the church Oh! how he is missed in the home. Everywhere we go, wverywhere we look we see something to remind us of him. It seems that it cannot be that he is gone. He was sick only six days, but he suffered so much from the very first till death came to relieve him with that dreaded disease pneumonia. Everything was done for im that the doctors, friends, and loved ones could do but Jesus said come. It is hard for us to say "God's will, not ours." He was needed so much, but right in the prime of life he was snatched away. We cannot see why it pleased the loving Father to take him from us but we know that in God's great love He will not put more on His children than we can bear. Oh if we could only see as if with the eye of Faith we could know why. Not now but in the coming years, It may be in that better land, We'll read the meaning of our tears, And then we will understand. Seph, as he was better known, was a loving husband, a devoted father and a noble and affectionate son. He was always happier when helping others to be happy. Weep not, dear little companion and aged father and mother, but think how sweet it is to die in Jesus, and how happy we will be when we meet our loved ones in that Glory Land where we will never know pain nor sorrow and where we can sing and praise our Blessed Redeemer throughout endless ages. He asked his pastor, Bro. Sherman, to pray, and when he had ceased praying, he commenced to pray himself in an humble pleas to his Heavenly Father to take charge of his wife, dear little ones, and his old father and mother, and then he said, "I am ready to go. Dear Saviour, take me out of my suffereing,: and fell asleep in Jesus. His remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in the presence of a large crowd of friends and loved ones.
