Obit: Oliver Nugent, Grant Parish La Submitted by Houston Tracy Jr. The Colfax Chronicle February 9, 1934 Former librarian, Helen Sorrell, at the Grant Parish Library had gone through some of the microfilm of the newspaper files of the Chronicle and made copies of obituaries and/or news items, which led to death. These were found in a folder on the book shelf at that library on a research trip there 13 February 1999. Nugent, Grant Parish lost one of its most useful and respected citizens. Mr. Nugent died on Monday, February 5, 1934 at his home in Ward Four, about four miles east of Dry Prong, after having been ill for a week. During Mr. Nugent's life, Grant Parish has made notable progress. No little amount of the achievments that have been made in Grant are due to this loyal citizen, faithful husband and devoted father. Mr. Nugent was born in November 14, 1869, within a mile of the site of his last earthly home. He spent all of his life in the community of his birth. On February 23, 1898, he was married to Miss Alice Rambo. To this union were born seven children, five of whom survive their father: Misses Effie and Eula Nugent of Dry Prong; Marvin Nugent of Pollock, La.; Ray Nugent of Tullos, La.; Roy Nugent of Rochelle, La. Other surviving relatives are one brother, Wesley Nugent of Dry Prong; one sister, Mrs. R.H. Breedlove of Longview, Texas; Mr. Nugent joined the Liberty Chapel M.E. Church, South at an early age and was a member in good standing all of his life. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from Liberty Chapel with the pastor, Rev. Paulk, assisted by Rev. Brown, in charge of the services. Interment was in Liberty Chapel Cemetery. Added information from other sources. Oliver Clement Nugent, son of William "Billy" and Tusette Elizabeth (Hollingsworth) Nugent, was born 14 Nov 1869 in Rapides, LA, and married 24 Feb 1899 in LA, (27314) Frances Alice Rambo, daughter of Joseph R. and Letha (Hutto) Rambo, who was born 30 Oct 1872 in San Augustine, TX. Oliver died 5 Feb 1934 in Grant, LA and was buried in Liberty Chapel, Grant, LA. Alice died 8 Oct 1940 in Williams, Grant, LA.
