POLLARD November 22, 1956 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Trooper Pollard Is Killed While Directing Traffic State Police Trooper J. N. Pollard, 37, of Bentley, was struck by an auto and killed while directing traffic on U. S. Highway 71, one mile north of Montgomery Tuesday night. Trooper Pollard was well known in this area and had worked in close cooperation with Winn Sheriff Sanford Jordan. Pollard who was with Troop E at Alexandria was resident trooper for Grant Parish. The Trooper was hit while standing in the middle of the highway as a truck was being pulled from the ditch onto the highway. According to reports, Pollard had stopped a motorist suspected of being drunk. A truck had driven upon the scene and stopped and bogged down in the mud on the shoulder of the highway, and Pollard was directing operations. Driver of the car was identified as a man from New Orleans. His name was not available. The Trooper, badly mangled, lived only a short while after being struck, and was dead on arrival at the hospital. Funeral services will be held at Prospect Church near Bentley at 10 a.m. Thursday.
