MARTHA MILLER QUINALTY March 3, 1939 Winnfield News-American Mrs. Thomas Quinalty Pioneer Resident Dies At Mt. Zion Funeral Services Held On Monday Afternoon At Mt. Zion Church Mrs. Martha Miller Quinalty, wife of Thomas Quinalty died at her home in Mt. Zion Community Sunday morning, February 26th, after a two weeks illness of pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Mt. Zion Church by Rev. Lula Wardlow and Rev. J. A. Jones of Montgomery and Rev. L. C. Smith of Pineville. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The deceased, a member of an old and prominent family of this parish, was born in Gansville, August 29, 1859, the daughter of Rev. H. F. Miller, pioneer Baptist minister, who was widely known in the early history of Winn Parish and was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield for a number of years. Mrs. Quinalty joined the Baptist Church in early life and after her marriage in 1886, became a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. She and her husband contributed much to the religious and civic upbuilding of their community and parish for over a half century of their lives together. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Quinalty and four children; Mrs. Mary Varnado of Corbin, La., Miss Lucy Quinalty of Mt. Zion; two sons, J. T. Quinalty of the State Agriculture Commission, Baton Rouge, and J. W. Quinalty, former member of the Winn Parish School Board from Ward 5. Pall bearers were Dr. N. M. Brian, Supt. S. C. Shaw, W. P. Williams, J. T. Bolton, Isa Downs, Costis Davison, J. C. Stevens, Ellis Teddlie, and Hilton Bolton. Those from Winnfield attending Mrs. Quinalty's funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John L. Calhoun, Eugene Beck, Walter W. Allen, Louis Sholars, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Crawford, Mrs. John W. Teddlie, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bolton, Mrs. Ella Long, Mrs. Charles Long, Mrs. Lucille Dyess, Miss Alma Little, Mrs. Jack Jones, and Mrs. Mattie Grandpierre. Other out of town relatives and friends attending were: Crawford Stevens, Supt. S. C. Shaw, Mrs. Ruth Miller, Henry Miller, Jr., Mrs. Cora Miller, all of Colfax; Rev. and Mrs. L. C. Smith of Pineville; Miss Susie Miller of El Dorado, Ark., Dr. Lawrence Etheridge of Eunice, La.
