W. Shows Held Tuesday, April 10 Last rites for J. W. Shows, 77, former police juror from Ward Six, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B. E. Lashley, Rt. 2, Atlanta, Monday, were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church, Jonesboro, with Elders L. C. Swanner and Samson Blackman officiating. Burial was in the Church cemetery. Nephews acted as pallbearers: Eulas Dean [Deen], Howard Coleman, Warren Ballio, Claude Shackleford, David Shackleford and Gus Lamb, Jr. A native of Jackson parish, Mr. Shows, with his family, had been a residents of Winn for the past 34 years. He settled south of the Atlanta community, and was considered one of Winn's most prosperous farmers. During his lifetime he was active in church and parish affairs. He served as police juror from his ward three terms, and before coming to Winn he was a school board trustee in Jackson parish. He was a member and a deacon of the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Mexie Mary Maxwell; two daughters, Mrs. B. E. Lashley and Mrs. E. W. Dean [Deen] of Mars Hill; three sons, A. E. and J. A. of Mars Hill, and H. B. Shows of Pineville. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Cindy Ballio, of Dry Prong. (Submitter's Note: Obituary contains a photo of Mr. Shows.
