Mrs. Shumate, 78, Succumbs; Rites At Union Hill

Mrs. Zettie S. Shumate, 78, of Montgomery, died at 9:25 p.m. Sunday, September
20, 1970 in Winnfield General Hospital.  She was a native of Winn Parish and a
member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, R. W. Shumate of Shreveport; four daughters, Mrs. C.
H. Sewell of Shreveport, Mrs. Matt Longino and Mrs. Huey Johnson, both of
Montgomery, and Mrs. John Longino of St. Landry; two brothers, Clinton
Strickland and Cary Strickland, both of Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Mrs.  J. A.
Whitley of Shreveport and Mrs. Jack Perry of Port Arthur, Texas; 33
grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Union Hill Baptist Church
near Montgomery, Rev. Elmer Pinder and Rev. H. B. Gorham officiating.  Burial
was in Mt. Zion Cemetery under direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home of 
Winnfield.
