TARTER HELD SUNDAY John W. Tarter, aged 77, died at the family residence, Colfax, Route 1, Saturday, March 4 at 5 p.m. The deceased has been a resident of the O>K> community for the past 30 years, and was the father of Ellis Tarter, who was the first of Grant parish soldiers to give his life in the World War and for whom the Ellis Tarter Post, American Legion, at Colfax is named. He is survived by three sons, Jim M. Tarter of Dry Prong; Oscar Tarter of Florida; Claude Tarter of Colfax; two daughters, Mrs. J. M. Thames of Dry Prong and Mrs. R. L. Johnson of Colfax. There are also 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3p.m. at the Oak Grove church eight miles east of Colfax, with Dr. A. E. Prince, pastor of the Pineville Baptist church, officating and assisted by Rev. J.C. Chelette, local pastor. Interment was made in the Oak Grove cemetery.
