TORRY DIES ON DEC 9 James Garfield Torry died Sunday, Dec, 9 at his home, He had been ill for several months. Funeral services were held at 2p.m. Wednesday, Dec 12 at Hixsons Chapel in Alexandria with the Rev. Fred Dyess, pastor of the New Prospect Baptist Church, Officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Charles Woods, pastor of Sardis Baptist Church. Interment wan in Frazier Cemetery near Bentley. Pallbearers were Obie Torry, Harold Pollard, Herschel Barton, Grant Torry, Gene Barton and Byron Brashears. The deceased was born Sept. 10, 1881, the son of Lycurgus E. Torry and Lucy Anna Williamson Torry, and was 81 years of age at the time of death. He was a life-long resident of Grant Parish and received his education in the Grant Parish Schools. Torry, who was a retired farmer, was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Roberta Corbett of Colfax, Mrs. Mary Pollard of Georgetown, Mrs. Silas Barton of Dry Prong and Mrs. Fannie Schiefelbine of Hemet, Calif.; five brothers, Marshall Torry of Tioga, Henry Torry of Shreveport, Tom Torry of Odessa, Texas and Carey Torry and Lee Torry, both of Dry Prong and several nieces and nephews.
