(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, July 13, 1918, Image 5 July 13, 1918 The criminial term of the District Court has been in session the past two weeks with Judge James Simon on the bench and the State represented by District Attorney Vuillemot. Numerous petty cases have been tried and convictions had. The case of much interest to come up next week is that of young Desire Migues who shot and killed last February in the town of Jeanerette one Whitney Veazey. The accused was not given the benefit of bail and consequently is still in the Parish prison awaiting trial. The State is represented by Mr. E. Vuillemot while accused has chosen as his attorneys Messrs. Edwin Broussard and Porteus R. Burke. All of the witnesses hail from Jeanerette where the crime was committed. Mr. Migues, though charged with a serious crime stood well in that community previous to the trouble which brought on the homicide. No doubt this will be one of the hardest fought cases in this Court for many years and it will bring here on the day of the trial many character witnesses from our sister town.
