 E.P. Smith a prominent citizen of New Iberia was killed in a riot with
negroes at Cade Station, near New Iberia, on the 16th.  Nineteen negroes are
said to be missing but whether killed or run away is not yet known.
NOTE:  The August 25, 1888 issue, page 1, column 5, has an account of the
riot.
