A gloom was cast over this community on Wednesday evening at six o'clock when it became known that Mr. Jake Bauman, a life-long resident of New Iberia had passed to the Great Beyond. Mr. Bauman was apparently in good health and the day previous to his demise was actively engaged at work in his mercantile store which adjoins his home on Duperier Avenue when he was suddenly atricken with heart failure from which he succumbed, after an illness of some thirty hours. Deceased came to New Iberia from Adams county, Mississippi when about four years of age and resided here almost continuously with his family until his death. He was a devoted father and husband and was held in high esteem by all who knew him, rearing a family of children among them being Mr. William B. Bauman, the assistant secretary of the Iberia Building Association, Mr. Louis Bauman who is stationed at Camp Pike, Ark. in the pharmaeutical department of the U. S. Government and three daughters Misses May, Bertha and Belle, all of whom were at his bedside with their mother at the time of his illness and death. The funeral was conducted from the Episcopal church, Rev. Dr. Diggs officiating on Thursday afternoon at four o'clock. The grief-stricken widow and children have the sympathy of the community. The pall bearers were Mr. E. T. Weeks, Mr. Vic Erath, Dr. F. F. Courts, Dr. E. S. Fulton, Messrs. Hubald Romero and M. W. Fisher.
