BAYARD One of this city's oldest and best known citizens passed away on last Friday, when the venerable Mr. H. B. Bayard, Civil war veteran, answered the last roll call. He always took a leading part in the activities of this parish, having large farming interests here, and he also served as deputy sheriff under Sheriff Barnard. Mr. Bayard's death occured (sic) Friday, and the funeral took place Saturday from St. Peters Church, being attended by a host of friends and relatives. Among the surviving relatives are his daughters, Mrs. O. P. Romero, Mrs. A. J. Louviere, Mrs. A. C. Duboin, of Iberia Parish, Mrs. Chas. Kratzer of Plaquemine, Sister Clothilde of the convent in Jeanerette, Mrs. Hendrick of Port Arthur, Mrs. Henry Scharff of Abbeville, Mrs. Harrison Lee of Orange, and Mrs. G. J. Piland of Port Arthur, Texas. He leaves two sons, E. B. Bayard and Henry Bayard of Oaklawn, La. The deceased had reached the ripe old age of 80 years and throughout this long time had been known only favorably, and a list of his friends would enroll all the principal families of Iberia parish.
