LOCAL NEWS.

A heartrending accident occurred at the Iberia Cypress Lumber Co's planing 
mill Thursday afternoon last, in which Mr. Homer Bayard lost his life. It 
seems that while engaged in adjusting some of the machinery he was 
precipitated between two of the large pulleys revolving at a rapid rate, and 
before assistance could be rendered or the machine stopped, he was so badly 
injured that death soon resulted. Deceased was a valued citizen of this 
community, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benoit Bayard, was in the prime of 
life, leaving a wife and two little children. The occurrence has cast a 
gloom over the entire community. The funeral was held at the Catholic church 
Friday at 3 o'clock P. M., attended by the sorrowing friends and grief 
stricken relatives.

A Horrible Death.

A young white man by the name of Homer Bayard, who was employed at the Big 
Jim saw mill, of the Iberia Cypress Company, Limited, met with a horrible 
death on the evening of the 28th inst. While performing his duties he 
suddenly came in contact with one of the belts and by it was dragged into 
the machinery where he was ground and pounded until his head and face was 
reduced to a pulp. It was a shocking, horrifying spectacle and made the 
blood of men run cold. He was a steady, upright, industrious young man and 
his untimely and violent death is universally regretted.
