A sad and deplorable death was that of last Sunday, March 3d which took from 
this community Mr. Ernest J. Berard Jr., aged 48 years and 8 months, after 
an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Berard had been employed baling hay in 
one of the adjoining parishes, and caught cold from which pneumonia set in 
and despite all that medical science could do passed to the Great Beyond. 
Deceased leaves a family of seven children besides his devoted wife, and 
aged mother and father to mourn his sad demise. His second son, Thomas 
Berard is now serving in the Army in France, having left with what is known 
as the Rainbow Division some eight months ago. The funeral occurred from St. 
Peter's Catholic church in this City on Monday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock.

We take this means to make known to our neighbors and friends our grateful 
appreciation to them for services rendered during the illness and death of 
our beloved husband and father, Mr. E. J. Berard, which occurred on March 
3d, 1918. - Mrs. E. J. Berard and Children.

DIED: At his residence on the East Side, New Iberia, on Sunday, March 3, 
1918, at 8:45 o'clock p. m., Ernest J. Berard, Jr., aged 48 years and 8 
months. He was the son of Ernest J. Berard and Amilda Ross. The funeral took 
place from St. Peter's Catholic church on Monday, March 4, 1918, at 4:30 
o'clock p. m.
