(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, August 16, 1902, Image 3 We are called upon to chronicle the sad event of the death of Mr. Elias Louis Bernard, aged 23 years, who died at Lake Charles last Wednesday night of pneumonia. His remains were forwarded here for interment, and were met at the station by a large circle of relatives and friends of the family. The funeral was held at the Catholic church, Rev. Father Feohn officiating. It is sad when death claims those of life, but more sad when he reaches out his hand for the young, who are just crossing the threshold of life, looking joyously, hopefully to the future which seem bright with promise. But it is the Father's will, we can but bow in submission - our ways are not his ways. Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Geo. W. Dallas and Mr. Ursin Bernard of this city. We offer the family and friends our sincere sympathy and regret. CARD OF THANKS. We earnestly desire to express our heartfelt thanks to the friends of the late Elias Bernard, for their kindness and attendance at his funeral. Special thanks are due Mr. Achille Patin and family, who were so thoughtful and kind, in rendering us a service which shall always be remembered. - New Iberia, La., Aug. 15, 1902. source: The Meridional.
