DIED: On Wednesday, July 12th, 1905, at 10:30 o'clock A. M., at his post of 
duty, on the Stmr Bagasse, John G. Berry, born February 16, 1848. The 
remains were brought to the family residence in this city Wednesday 
afternoon. The funeral took place from the Catholic Church, on Thursday, 
morning at 9:30 o'clock.

The officers and members of Iberia Lodge, No. 3155, Knights of Honor, met at 
their lodge room on Thursday morning at 8:30, thence proceeded in a body to 
the family residence to participate in the funeral ceremonies by the lodge, 
at the conclusion of which the remains were escorted to the church, thence 
to the grave, by a large concourse of relatives, friends and acquaintances.

News came by wire Wednesday that Mr. John Berry had died suddenly while 
doing duty as an engineer on one of the railroad boats running between New 
Iberia and Morgan City. Mr. Berry lived here for many years, and we believe 
was a native of St. Martinville, and had many friends and relatives here who 
were stricken with sorrow on hearing his sudden death.

Captain John Berry, a veteran steamboatman, was found dead at his post while 
his vessel was en route from Berwick to New Iberia.
