Death invaded the home of Mr. Lastie Bertrand last Sunday, January 4th in the 
3d Ward and took therefrom his son, Charles, aged only 14 years, after a short 
illness. The remains were brought to St. Peter's Catholic church on Monday 
afternoon at 3 o'clock for the last rites, after which they were deposited in 
the Catholic cemetery. The family of the deceased have the sympathf (sic) of a 
large circle of friends in the hour of their distress.

NECROLOGICAL.

DIED: At the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lastie Bertrand, at Belle Place,
in the Third Ward of this parish, on Sunday evening, January 4th, at 8:30 o'clock, 
Charles Bertrand, age 14 years. The funeral took place from St. Peters Catholic
Church in this city on Monday afternoon at 3:00 p. m.

The silver cord is loosened, the golden bowl is broken, the dust has returned to earth
which gave it, and the spirit has returned to God who gave it. The devoted boy who
remembered his Creator in the days of his youth, ere the evil days came, or the years
drew nigh when he should say "I have no pleasure in them," has finished his earthly
course and has reached the heavenly goal while yet a youth in the race of life.

"Of every tear that sorrowing mortals shed on such green graves, some good is born,
some gentler nature comes."
