It is with deep regret we chronicle the death of the venerable Mr. August C. Boas, which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leon P. Bagarry last Saturday morning at 3:30 o'clock A. M. Mr. Boas had been identified with New Iberia almost continuously since coming to this country and followed the occupation of machinist, in fact for a number of years he was the chief mechanic in the large foundry of the late F. S. Lutzenberg and which later was taken over by the late Mr. George Simon. During the later years of his career he operated a gun repair shop and was an expert in that line of endeavor. He was born in the year 1844 and came to this country when a lad of seventeen. He was a life-long member of the Odd Fellows Order and for the past seven years was an ardent member of the local Order of Elks. He leaves to mourn his demise a daughter, Mrs. L. P. Bagarry and one son, Mr. William Boas of Baton Rouge and several grand-daughters. The funeral services was conducted at the home on Washington Avenue by the Elk Lodge and also by Rev. Paradis of the Presbyterian church on Saturday afternoon at 6:30, after which the remains were interred in his burial plot in the Catholic cemetery.
