(New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, May 21, 1904, Image 3 Terrible Accident White Man Run Over and Killed Sunday Frederick Bouchard, a white farmer, was killed by a special excursion train over the new F. and A. R. R. Sunday night about 8:80 o'clock. The terrible accident occured (sic) near the pesthouse, half a mile south of the Union Station, on the tracks used jointly by the S. P. and F. and A. railroad. Just how it happened is unknown. His remains were discovered immediately after the accident which cost him his life. They were in a terribly mangled condition and were scattered along the tract for a short distance. Evidently death was almost if not instantaneous. Bouchard had been residing of late some two and a half miles south of town along the F. and A. road and was, evidently on his way homeward, walking on the track, when overtaken by the train, with the result mentioned above. Some suppose that he attempted to board the train and slipping fell beneath the wheels of the train. But be as it may, the truth will never be known, as there were no witnesses to the terrible occurence (sic) which cost a human life. Remains of the victim of the fatal accident were taken charge of by Mr. Jim Jones a son in law of deceased and other relatives and interment was made in the Protestant Cemetery Monday afternoon.
