(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, March 09, 1918, Image 5 DEATH OF NUMA BROUSSARD Died, at the residence of Mr. W. J. Walet in New Iberia on Saturday, March 2d, 1918 at five o'clock P. M. the venerable Mr. Numa Broussard at the ripe old age of seventy-nine years. Mr. Broussard was one of the landmarks of the Parish and spent the greater part of his useful life in the Fourth Ward. He was married to Miss Decuir who died some fifteen years ago, and since the death of his wife he has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Walet whom he regarded as his own. In the year 1892 he served the people of this Parish as the Clerk of Court and at the end of his term was succeeded in that office by Hon. Gabi LeBlanc. During the Civil War he served in the service of the Confederacy as a member of Company D. 18th Louisiana Regiment and when Iberia Camp No. 1788 United Confederate Veterans was organized, he became one of its honored members. He leaves to mourn his demise a brother, ex- Mayor M. L. Broussard of St. Martinsville, two sisters, residents of Lafayette parish. The funeral which was in charge of the Dauterive Undertaking Co. was conducted at the Catholic church on Sunday last at five P. M. and was largely attended. the (sic) Confederate Veterans being in attendance in a body. source: The Weekly Iberian. Walet, New Iberia, on West St. Peter's street, on Saturday, March 2, 1918, at 5 o'clock p. m., Numa Broussard, aged 79 years. The funeral took place from St. Peter's Catholic church on Sunday, March 3, 1918, at 5 o'clock p. m., attended by a large number of friends and relatives. Mr. Broussard was a Confederate veteran, belonging to Company D, Eighteenth Louisiana Regiment. He was a member of Iberia Camp No. 1788, United Confederate Veterans. The camp, headed by Captain E. J. Carstens, with the Confederate flag in evidence, attended the funeral in a body. Deceased was a man of good disposition, obliging those who came in contact with him, and being very fond of little children. He leaves to mourn his loss two sisters and one brother, Mrs. S. St. Julien, of Broussard, Mrs. Alcee Bourque, of Lafayette, and Mr. Lusignan Broussard, of St. Martinville.
