After an illness of about ten days due to a sudden stroke of apoplexy all that was mortal of the venerable Mrs. L. A. Burgess, a resident of New Iberia for over thirty-five years passed to the Great Beyond on Thursday night at 7:40 o'clock. Deceased was born in New Orleans 78 years ago and a few years after her bethrothal to the late Dr. Burgess removed to our City with her husband who enjoyed a large clientelle here until his death, a number of years since. Mrs. Burgess, nee Caroline Maes enjoyed a large acquaintance amongst our citizens and her death, while anticipated, owing to her mature years, cast a gloom over the community. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Langlois, pastor of St. Peter's Catholic church on Friday, Sept. 13th at 11:30 o'clock A. M. Deceased leaves to mourn her, two daughters, Mrs. Albert Estorge and Mrs. Charles W. Outhwaite and two grand-children. the pall bearers were Dr. H. A. King, Messrs. paul LeBourgeois, Maurice B. LeMaire, Edward T. Weeks and Edwin L. Broussard. The grief-stricken relatives have the sincere condolences of many freinds throughout the State. source: The Weekly Iberian. The funeral took place on Friday 11:30 A. M. from St. Peter Catholic Church with interment at the Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Burges leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Outhwaith and Mrs. Albert Estorge.
