(New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, March 31, 1917, Image 3 On Tuesday morning, just after breakfast, Joe Chancel, one of the workmen at the oil field, died suddenly from acute indigestion. He was a Frenchman by birth, but a naturalized citizen of this country. Upon the outbreak of the Spanish American was he joined Capt. A. N. Muller's company of volunteers. Just before being attracted here by the awakening interest in the oil field, he made his home at Ged, Calcasieu parish. He was an Odd Fellow, holding his membership in Wayland Lodge No. 165. The members of P. M. Dickinson Lodge No. 66 I. O. O. F. took charge of the conduct of the funeral and laid his remains to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery of this city on Wednesday afternoon.
