(New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, February 28, 1920, Image 5 DIED - Miss Marie Casanova left this earth of sorrow, anguish and strife on Thursday, the 19th. Her funeral took place the next day from St. Peter's Catholic Church at 5 o'clock in the evening. She was born in New Orleans, November, 1856, and educated at St. Augustine Convent in that city. She moved to Loreauville with her mother, brother and sister, Mrs. Guilfoux, about 1876, where she established a private school, saying: "An uneducated vicinity is a curse to civilization." She taught some of the most prominent people of the section, her salary being: "Pay who can, do not pay who cannot." - May her soul rest in peace!
