Mr. Childs came to this parish early in the 80's with his family and was for many years the junior member of the firm of Martin & Childs, well known as cane growers and sugar manufacturers. Later he moved his planting operations to St. Mary. He had been in bad health for several years, much of which time he made his home with Mrs. Earl Barnet, his daughter, in St. Mary, near Centreville, where he died.
