The sad news of the death of Mr. Charles Clerc in Lake Charles Friday morning at three o'clock was received here with profound regret and was a shock to his friends and the community. Mr. Clerc had not been in good health for many months and his visit to Lake Charles some weeks ago was for special treatment in an effort to overcome disease, but the inevitable was to be and Mr. Clerc passed on with the great caravon to move to eternal reward. This community has lost in him one of their brightest and best citizens, alive to her progress and business life. He represented the firm of J. Pollock & Co. of Mobile, Ala., one of the largest wholesale dry goods houses in the South with his headquarters here. Mr. Clerc was an active citizen in all progressive measures and was always one who could be depended on to take the lead in the good and progressive moves in the City. He was an active spring in T. P. A. organization of this City, a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, being a member of the Board of Directors of the Elks Theatre Co, Ltd., untiring and devoted to the various organizations of which he was a member. He was born in this City forty-seven years ago spending his youth and early manhood in this community, but owing to his business was away from home in later years a great deal but resumed his residence here some years past occupying the old family home, corner Main and Centor (sic) Streets. Mr. Clerc married a Miss McCormick of Lake Charles, and leaves besdes (sic) his wife, his mother, Mrs. Josephine Clerc, two sisters, Mrs. Jolesant and Miss Theaux and two brothers, Albert and Rene F. Clerc. His remains were taken to New Orleans this morning for burial in the family tomb. The funeral taking place from the residence of Mr. Joubert No. 15 Morgan Boulevard this afternoon. A delegation of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks left here to attend the funeral in New Orleans.
