Died: At midnight, preceding July 15th, 1913, after a protracted illness, Mr. Clarence E. Colgin, born at New Orleans, La., July 4th, 1868, youngest son of the late Dr. Geo. J. Colgin of this city. The funeral services were held on Wednesday noon at the Episcopal Church, Rev. R. R. Diggs officiating. The remains were laid to their final rest in the family plot in the Ross Hill Cemetery. Mr. Colgin's life work was devoted principally to the service of the public as a deputy in the Sheriff's office, where he served under several administrations. He first entered this service, when quite a young man, under the leadership of Capt. C. Taylor Cade, back in those troublous times when the courage and endurance of men were sorely tried. He served in the same capacity under Sheriff Geo. Henderson up to the spring of 1912, when his health gave away. His acquaintances and friendships were almost as broad and universal as the individuals making up the population of this parish. He was known to thousands, better perhaps, by his boyhood nickname, "Buster" - a name which conveyed a sense of dread to the minds of those who had violated the laws of the land. He was ever faithful to duty under the most trying circumstances, giving but lettle heed to personal safety or comfort. He is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Carre T. Montagne and Mrs. E. F. Millard, of this city, and two brothers: Geo. T. Colgin now at Grand Cote Island, this parish, and Rufus Colgin, at Fort Worth, Tex., and by a number of nephews and nieces in both this and the Lone Star State.
