(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, January 30, 1915, Image 5 Last Thursday, a number of friends of Messrs. Paul and Octave Darby, met the 11:30 Southern Pacific train which bore the remains of their brother, Mr. Geo. A. Darby who died Wednesday evening at the home of Hon. L. P. Bryant where he had been living for some time. A son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Darby, the decedent was born sixty-four years ago, in the old St. Marc home on Spanish Lake, and there grew to manhood and was educated by private tutors. The ravages of the Civil War which had made inroads on the family fortune, caused him when a young man to go to New Orleans to seek employment. He soon became connected with one of the large cotton brokerage firms of the city and continued in that line until failing sight and ill health caused his retirement some five years ago. For the past two years Mr. Darby had been completely blind and a constant sufferer from an organic disease, which was the cause of his sudden death last Wednesday evening. Mr. Darby was never married, he is survived by his brothers, Paul, Octave and Gabriel, all well known and respected citizens of this community.
