(Special To The Advertiser) NEW IBERIA, Dec.17 - Gabriel Darby, 86 years of age and for the past 40 years living the life of a recluse, died at a local sanitarium at 12:54 p. m. December 16. Mr. Darby was rushed to Dauterive's Sanitarium Monday suffering from burns when he fell head foremost in one of the fire places of his home. Evidently the old man suffered a heart attack when the accident occurred. Mr. Darby was born in 1854, son of St. Mar Darby and Coralie Fuselier. His father was the son of an illustrious Virginia family while his mother was the daughter of aristocratic French parents prominently identified with the Antebellum. Mr. Darby, as a young man, attended St. Peter's College where he received his education. Enjoying little intercourse with the outside world, Mr. Darby was informed on all that was happening to a world almost foreign to himself. Funeral services for the deceased were held this morning at St. Peter's Catholic Church at Requiem High Mass. Right Reverend J. M. Langlois, V. G. officiated and was assisted by Father Goguen and Father Veerhelm. Interment was in the family plot in the local Catholic cemetery. Mr. Darby is survived by three nephews, Rene and Henry Sere of New Orleans and Eugene DeBlanc of Port Arthur, Texas.
