Last Saturday evening at nine o'clock, Willie Decuir quietly breathed his last at his mother's home on Julia Street and New Iberia as well as his family grieved over the loss of a good citizen. A scion of one of the most respected and influential families of this section. Mr. Decuir was born in New Iberia, May 1886 and resided here throughout his useful life always aiding to make life in his home City more happy and contributing his just quota towards its advancement. At the death of his father, Mr. Arthur Decuir, first assistant cashier of the New Iberia National Bank, which occurred during his early childhood, the decedent was called upon to assist his widowed mother in caring for his three young sisters; and even though some years later his mother contracted a second marriage with Mr. V. M. Aubry, filial devotion prompted that he should continue by her side and share his earnings with her that his younger half sisters and brother might be deprived of no comforts. Long identified with the Globe as chief clerk, Mr. Decuir was accounted one of the best salesmen of this City, of pleasing personality, affable and courteous, he attracted many customers to himself and by fair treatment, not only retained these customers but made friends of them. A devoted son, a loving brother, a loyal friend and a good citizen has passed away. To his bereaved family we offer our sympathies, and hope that the knowledge of his well spent life will serve to mitigate their present grief and sorrow. His funeral last Sunday afternoon was probably the largest held here in a decade. Hundreds of sorrowing ones crowded the afflicted home to have one last look at the countenance of their friend; while the Elks the only order to which he belonged, surrounded the hearse and, with bowed heads, watched over the remains of their brother as they were being borne to their last resting place by the pall bearers selected from their midst. At St. Peter's Catholic church where Rev. J. M. Langlois performed the last sad rights, the large edifice could not contain the crowds and in order to pay proper tribute to the memory of Willie Decuir, many were compelled to stand on the outside during the church ceremony. Mr. Decuir is survived by a mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. V. M. Aubry, by three sisters, Mrs. Gordon A. Sandoz of New Iberia; Mrs. John Caffery of St. Mary and Miss Stella Decuir of New Iberia and by several half-sisters and one- half brother, children of Mr. V. M. Aubry, all residents of this city. source: The Weekly Iberian. New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, February 20, 1915, Image 3 NECROLOGICAL. Died, at the residence of his mother, Mrs. Victor M.
