(New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, February 17, 1917, Image 3 DIED: At her residence, 625 Iberia St, in this City, on Saturday, February 10th, 1917, at 1 o'clock A. M., Mrs. Charles Delhommer, nee, Marie Louise Noemie Arbonneaux, born December 21, 1833, a native of Assumption Parish. The funeral took place from St. Peters Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon. NECROLOGY. Mrs. Charles Delhommer, for many years a resident of this City departed this life Saturday morning following an illness of only a few days. Full of years, for she was four score and three she went forth to meet her Maker with an assured hope of everlasting life. Mrs. Delhommer was one of the kindest, gentliest and meekest of women. Everybody who came in contact with her loved her. She had an ardent and active faith which made her very charitable and devoted to all her duties. Mrs. Delhommer was before her marriage Miss Noemie Arbonneaux and came from very distinguished ancestry. She was born in Assumption Parish. The funeral ceremony was held at St. Peter's Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. M. Langlois who paid eloquent tribute to the Christian life of the deceased, exhorting his hearers to follow her good example. The pall bearers were Major Paul L. deClouet, Messrs Alexis Voorhies, Sidney Harry, Eugene Guillot, C. L. Provost, Louis Delhommer. A FRIEND. 2nd. Obituary: source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, February 17, 1917, Image 4 NECROLOGICAL. No matter at what time, in what form, and under what circumstances death makes its appearance in our homes, and with merciless hand snatches from the family circle one of our dear ones; it is always terrible. It is one of those ordeals in life to which we can never be accustomed. No matter how often we are struck, the last blow always seems to be the most painful. Mrs. Charles Delhommer, born Noemie Arbonneaux, died at the home of her son, Mr. E. E. Delhommer on Saturday, the 10th inst., at one o'clock A. M. at the age of eighty three years, one month and twenty days. She was buried from the Catholic church, of which she was a de-devoted (sic) and faithful practitioner, Rev. Father Langlois officiating, at 3 o'clock P. M. on Sunday the 11th inst. She has just closed a long earthly career that is in every way a priceless heritage to the family left to mourn her loss. She has passed from this transitory existence to that world above, where she found, let us hope, the surcease from pain and sorrow in eternal rest. She went to her eternal sleep with the same Christian faith and resignation which has characterized her life. Married over sixty years ago, Mrs. Delhommer became the mother of twelve children, of whom five survive her; viz: Mr. Albert Delhommer of New Orleans; Messrs. E. E. and Rene Delhommer of New Iberia; Mrs. Felix Mestayer of New Iberia and Mrs. Ernest Ducros of Bay City, Texas. She left seventeen grand children, and seventeen great grandchildren - and her heart was big enough to have an abiding place for every one of that large family. When a good, a loving Christian mother has gone through what she has to raise such a family, we can well hope that she has gone to her Maker to receive the deserved reward for a long life full of devotion, of sweetness of character, of Christian virtue and resignation? Once a woman possessing a good share of the good things of this life; she was sweet, modest and charitable in prosperity, and in adversity she displayed these qualities to a still greater extent. May she rest in peace is the sincere prayer of a life long OLD FRIEND.
