DOMINIQUE DOERLE Died, at her home, in this city, 622 Julia street, on last Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, Mrs. Dominique Doerle. The funeral took place on Sunday evening from St. Peters Catholic Church. In 1818 Dorothy Breidthsnyder, a native of Berlin, Germany, arrived at New Orleans with a party of emigrants from the Father Land to make their home in the Western World. She was a maid of 16 summers at that time. Another member of the party, from the same county, was Dominique Doerle, in the prime of his young manhood, seeking a home of peace far from political troubles and strife of the times, where he might build his worldly fortune and enjoy his fire side. Two years later (1850) Dorothy became Mrs. Doerle, and the happy young couple came to New Iberia, better known then as "Newtown," to cast their lot in life and for the pursuit of happiness. Here they acquired property, built their home, and spent the remainder of their days. Mr. Doerle gave New Iberia its first show store. To this union were born seven children. All save one, Mr. Geo. Doerle, Sr., precceded the mother to that shore from whence no traveller returns. "It is the broken ties at the grave that prompts us to a fuller appreciation of the tenderness of the ties that are not yet broken; and so while we mourn the loss of our dead, we may rejoice that there is no cloud so dark that there is no light behind it, no sorrow so poignant that there is not a balm for the wound it inflicts." Of all the thoughts of God that are Borne inward unto minds afar, Along the Psalmist's music deep Now tell me, if any there is, For gift of grace surpassing this; He giveth his beloved sleep.
