Duperier Killed in France Brother of Clarence Duperier of This City News reached Mr. Clarence Duperier on Thursday confirming a report circulated some days ago to the effect that his young brother, H. F. Duperier had been killed in France while battling for the cause of Democracy. "H. F." was a son of the late Henry F. Duperier and left New Iberia when in his teens to take up his residence with his aunt, Mrs. P. R. Duperier at Beaumont, Texas. The young gentleman resigned a lucrative position with a Railroad Company at the above mentioned place, immediately at the outbreak of the war and went to France to serve his country. The news of his death was sent direct to his aunt by Mr. Fred Dallas, another Iberian who had enlisted at the same time and from the same place. In the communication addressed to his brother here, Mrs. Duperier quoted Mr. Dallas' letter, which reads as follows: "H.F. had been over the top several times and was indeed one of the best and bravest soldiers in his company. He would stand and fight like the men did in grandpa's time, and on the last day after he had gone through it like a man, e was carrying a message, when he was hit by one of the many shells that the Hun's were shooting over our line. H.F. never knew what hit him, he died a few minutes afterwards, with a smile on his face. He is now asleep on the hill-side, which we hope will never be disturbed. Mrs. Duperier it broke all our hearts to lose "H.F.", for he was loved by all the boys over here. It makes me sick to think of it, as we were boys together and to lose him over here was hard, but some of us have to stay behind. Mrs. Duperier, each and every one of us extend a hand in sympathy to you and I assure you that we have a tender feeling in our hearts for you and our old boy chum who is now asleep on the hill-side."
