MISS ANITE DUPUY, "MOST STUDIOUS," DIED SUNDAY. On Monday, February 7th the students and faculty of the New Iberia High School were called upon to show their sincere regard for one of their number who had answered the last roll call. This was the first time that this had occurred within the memory of those who have been connected with the High School for the last twelve years. Anite Dupuy entered the High School September 8, 1919 and always ranked high among the students of her class. At the opening of the present session, the third Monday in January, she enrolled as a student in the 9th A grade. She belonged to the group of students who each term attain an average of 90 or over in all subjects and hence are exempted from final examinations. In a "popularity contest" conducted in the first part of the previous session she received the largest number of votes, as "The most studious" pupil in the High School. Her's was a gentle and reserved character. She moved so quietly among her fellow-students that when the news was brought that she was no longer with us it was difficult for many to recall more than her name as one on the roll. But her teachers knew her as an ambitious student, conscientious almost to a fault. She eagerly absorbed all the knowledge within her reach and was ever prompt with her assignments and in the performance of her duties. her classmates will remember her always as a grave, refined student, holding her place among them so gently that it seems she must still be with them. She had been absent from school scarcely two weeks and it was generally known she was ill with the grippe which had been prevalent among the students for over two weeks. her death came as a complete shock to many for scarcely any knew that pneumonia had set in and that she was desperately ill. She died Sunday night at the home of a relative, Mrs. Derouen, at the age of sixteen years. School was dismissed at 3:30 Monday afternoon and the entire student body and faculty formed a guard of honor for the funeral cortage as it moved from Weeks St. to St. Peter's Catholic Church where the last services were conducted. The girls of the ninth grade, carrying flowers, led the procession. Floral offerings from the faculty and her class attested the deep sympathy of her teachers and classmates for her bereaved father, Mr. Henry Dupuy, and for her other grief-stricken relatives.
