Eaves, a well known and a popular young gentleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Eaves, has passed into the great Beyond, after an illness of several weeks duration. His death occured (sic) at the residence of his parents last Saturday night and hoped a shock to those who have known and admired him and hoped for his recovery. Mr. Eaves was a member of the Jeanerette Encampment, Knights of Temperance, which organization together with local Knights attended the funeral in a body which took place from St. Peter's Catholic Church 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery. source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, November 28, 1903, Image 3 Died on November 21, 1903, at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Eves, in this city Mr. Willis L. Eves, aged 22 years. Deceased had been a sufferer for a long time and although his death was expected almost daily yet when it did come it cast a gloom over a large circle of friends who mourn the untimely death of their promising young friend. The funeral took place at the Catholic Church, November 23, 1903, Father Frohn, officiating. Deceased was an honored Knight of Temperance, belonging to Encampment of Jeanerette No. 20, the members of which, together with Teche Encampment No. 18 of this city, turned out in force attending the obsequies and escorting the remains of their companion to the cemetery.
